Apple 3G iPhone Details To Be Announced At Worldwide Developer Conference

CEO Steve Jobs will be releasing the brand new 3G iPhone and will be officially announcing a new software platform for the upgraded phone at the Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday.

According to reports the new iPhone will have new features one of the most anticipated being GPS. It will also be given a thinner casing and an “improved virtual keyboard with haptics,” similar to multi-touch technology. Many consumers are hoping the the new 3G iPhone will be priced $50 - $100 cheaper than the first iPhone – which currently sells at $399 for the 8Gbyte and $499 for the 16Gbyte.

Apple’s web site stated that both versions of the iPhone are currently unavailable. Officials did state earlier that iPhone stocks were low both in Europe and the U.S. – which leads many of us to believe that Apple was decreasing the supplies in order to prepare the market for the next generation iPhone. However, the old iPhone won’t disappear.. It makes sense to keep the old iPhone supplies running as the usage of older wireless networks is widespread, especially in the U.S.

AT&T is already preparing the new 3G network to handle the amount of traffic that they are sure to expect. They announced this week that the new wireless network would be able to reach downlink speeds of 1.7M bps. This is a 20% increase over previous speeds. The broadband network is available in many U.S. metropolitan areas, and the carrier intends to expand it. The network uses HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) technology.
