HTC Introduces New Touch Diamond Smartphone
High Tech Computer released details on their new smartphone the HTC Touch Diamond – which will run Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional. This brand new phone has been dubbed the next generation in HTC’s most popular Touch smartphone. Over 3 million units were sold within 10 months of its launch date.
One of the newest thing we can expect from the Touch Diamond is that it has been updated to support 3G – which is one step ahead of Apple. Last year, HTC launched its first Touch handset nearly a month ahead of the iPhone. The Touch Diamond will be available throughout Europe starting in June, followed by Asia and the Middle East. The handset will hit North and South America in the second half of the year.
The Touch Diamond will be able to work on the Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) network and will offer data rates that can reach 7.2M bits per second through the use of High Speed Packet Access (HSPA).
The CEO of HTC – Peter Chou – is confident that the new phone will be more popular than the original Touch. “This is going to be the biggest product of my life,” he said.
They have changed up the capabilities of the touch screen by tweaking the TouchFlo software that they use in order to give it a more 3D look about it. Users will have the ability to use the screen for pictures, messages, music, and e-mail.
The company also upgraded the Web browser, which is built on an engine from Opera Software but was designed specifically for HTC. The browser fits the screen, and users can zoom and pan Web sites with one hand. Turn the device sideways, and the view automatically rotates as well.
The new Touch Diamond will be given specific applications that will allow users to watch videos from YouTube and to access Google Maps. It will have a 3.2 megapixel camera that will auto focus and allow for video calling.
